Woodpecker Creation

Check out this woodpecker damage on my carob tree. Can you believe it? It looks so organized that I had to think awhile before I realized it was woodpecker damage. I think I'll be creating a piece of jewelry that displays this work. I don't want them to damage my tree but I also can appreciate the work that has gone into creating this work. :)It's VERY interesting!

Boulder Opal Pendant Completed

I had to use a different boulder opal than originally planned, because this one fits better. I arranged the prongs so that they wouldn't cover the beautiful blue colors in the opal. I stamped my initials on the wrong side (front) and then on the back hoping I could sand the front ones off, but they were too deep, oh well. I like this piece, it has a flare of rustic yet a bit of softness with the saw piercings and all-in-all a definite uniqueness that suits me.

The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show 2012

The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show is in town and I know I get very excited and inspired when I get to go and browse through objects from all over the world. On Wednesday I found boulder opals from Opals Mine Factory Limited. They are unique because you can see the opals within the boulders and it is such a contrast that I just had to purchase some. My plan is to prong set them and I am anxious to see how that goes. The boulder opals are beautiful stones with colors like orange and turquoise blue interspersed within the boulders. I chose one of my purchases, designed a copper pendant, cut the copper shape with a jeweler's hand saw, saw pierced the designs along the edge, and plan to sink the copper where the stone will be placed and attach prongs to support the stone. Stay tuned for the finished product that I plan to have completed very soon.
